Palmetto Synthetics Signs CertainT Trademark License Agreement with Applied DNA for Synthetic Fiber Manufacture to Ensure Supply Chain Traceability, Transparency and Trust

CertainT Tag-Test-Track System at the Synthetic Yarn Fiber Association on October 27, 2017 in Charlotte, North Carolina

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (October 24, 2017)Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (“Applied DNA,” “the Company,” NASDAQ: APDN), has signed a new CertainT® trademark license agreement with Palmetto Synthetics (“Palmetto”), a leader in the production of high quality, specialty synthetic fiber. Palmetto’s mission “is to be the leading global innovator and provider of specialty synthetic fiber while fostering a culture of integrity, dignity and respect for their team members, business partner, community and environment.” The newly signed CertainT trademark licensing agreement enables Palmetto to reach their goals of bringing transparency to their own manufacturing processes, and also to provide their customers with traceability and trust in the original tagged synthetic fiber.

Under the CertainT® platform, customers are provided with secure, forensic guidelines for monitoring the flow of product through the manufacturing process via molecular tagging, testing and tracking. Routine inspection and authentication is transparent and certified throughout the process via an integrated database and portal. CertainT also helps customers with meeting their sustainability goals by 2020. Products that use recycled, renewable or re-usable materials that have an eco-conscious composition can benefit from molecular tagging.

David Poston, President of Palmetto Synthetics stated “that to continue to be an industry leader, one must embrace new technology in paving the way to commit to customer excellence through the promotion of state of the art technology. As indicated in the past, we have our eye on the future and we are excited about CertainT’s platform and look forward to total implementation.”

“The CertainT system physically traces the raw material, ingredient, component and product, so you can claim that you are performing full traceability from source to shelf. That’s the difference between most standards that certify products that use a paper trail, or a mass-balance approach, where certified raw materials, such as recycled PET can be easily mixed with non-certified ones. CertainT can help assure product integrity and traceability by ensuring the product itself,” stated Dr. James A. Hayward, President and CEO of Applied DNA Sciences.

Applied DNA Sciences and Palmetto Synthetics will be co-presenting with Techmer PM at the Synthetic Yarn Fibers Association Fall Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina in October 27, 2017.

APDN, Videojet Enter Strategic Partnership to Offer New Security Print Platform to Diverse Commercial Ecosystems

Posted on

Partnership enables brands that use inkjet to forensically tag products and packaging, test throughout the supply chain, and track globally to certify product claims, and prevent diversion and counterfeits

STONY BROOK, N.Y. September 26, 2017 – Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (“Applied DNA,” “the company,” NASDAQ: APDN), has entered into a strategic partnership with VideojetTechnologies (Videojet). Applied DNA and Videojet have collaborated in the design of co-branded Applied DNA SigNature® molecular-tagged Videojet inks, and a co-branded printer that electronically restricts the use of ink cartridges to only those that contain SigNature DNA inks. The relationship brings the potential to empower the tagging of countless commercial items, all of which are candidates for a CertainT™ licensing agreement, enabling traceability along the entire supply chain. These solutions will be jointly introduced this week at Pack Expo 2017 in Las Vegas, NV.

Integrating the technologies from both companies creates a world-class solution that will be offered to the many industries in which both companies are already engaged. Videojet’s 325,000-install base of printers, which code and mark well over ten billion products each day, is a testament to the power of continuous inkjet printing (CIJ) technology. The initial offering utilizes Videojet’s newly released 1860 printer, which will be co-branded with Applied DNA, along with co-branded Videojet inks that will incorporate Applied DNA’s unique SigNature molecular tag into each individual ink cartridge. The SigNature-enabled inks will be brand-specific, enabling each brand to tag, test and track their products from source to shelf under a CertainT platform. Gaining this additional traceability, transparency, and ultimately trust between value chain partners will allow brands to offer a new level of certainty to their customers that the products they are buying are authentic.

The initial rollout of co-branded SigNature molecular tagged inks includes an aerospace-approved ink. This durable black ink was chosen to qualify first, due to its specific application and use in US military and aerospace industry for unique identifier (UID) tags for an array of critical components spanning several Federal Supply Groups (FSGs). Initial qualification testing, confirming that the molecular tagged ink does not impact printer uptime or operation, was performed under Applied DNA’s first Rapid Innovation Fund (RIF) contract awarded by the Office of the Secretary of Defense. In addition to critical FSG items, this ink is most commonly used as a date/lot code marking solution for food, tobacco, coffee, baby, health and personal care.

“We are very excited to team with Videojet to bring this combined solution to market and offer a broad range of companies a definitive method to support their brand protection strategies. This is a significant opportunity to increase the universe of SigNature-tagged items, increase our market share, and broadly secure the supply chains of complex commercial ecosystems through the use of our CertainT platform,” stated Dr. James Hayward, President and CEO of Applied DNA.

“Applied DNA’s SigNature molecular tags and CertainT platform complements Videojet’s marking and coding solutions, allowing us to offer a new secure ink option, adding to our robust portfolio of brand protection and industrial track and trace offerings that are used across many commercial industries,” said Fred Susi, Videojet VP of Business and Product Planning.

CRADA Awarded Under Recent Rapid Innovation Fund Contract; Project to Demonstrate Hand-held DNA Detection Kits to Drive Adoption of DNA-based Supply Chain Security

STONY BROOK, N.Y. September 12, 2017 Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (“Applied DNA”, “the Company”, NASDAQ: APDN), is proud to announce the signing of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (“CRADA”) with the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command’s Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (“ECBC”) to study the commercialization of ECBC’s innovative rapid, in-field DNA microarray technology for use in military and commercial supply chains. ECBC is the nation’s primary Department of Defense (“DoD”) technical research organization for non-medical chemical and biological warfare defense.

Under the terms of the CRADA, a cooperative effort under the recently-announced Defense Logistics Agency Rapid Innovation Fund award secured by Applied DNA in June 2017, ECBC’s subject matter experts and Applied DNA’s science team will cooperatively study the feasibility of commercializing ECBC’s in-field DNA detection technology in varied supply chains. ECBC’s hand-held in-field DNA microarray technology allows for detection of a DNA taggant within a few minutes. The project goal is to demonstrate the system with Applied DNA’s taggants introduced into standard inks or varnishes or onto other surfaces, without the need for DNA amplification or other sample preparation, thus greatly simplifying in-field DNA detection.

“Rapid, hand-held in-field DNA detection has long been a goal of ours and is essential to the long-term growth of our technology platform,” stated Dr. James Hayward, president and CEO of Applied DNA. “We are honored to work with the U.S. Army through ECBC to study the commercialization of the ECBC’s innovative in-field DNA detection technology as a complement to our DNA authentication products for supply chain integrity capable of rapid detection anywhere, anytime, for global supply chains.”

Continued Dr. Hayward, “This mutually beneficial cooperative research and development project parallels our ongoing partnership with several DoD agencies and reflects our continued efforts to commercialize technologies made available under our ongoing DoD R&D contracts. We believe that the ECBC’s technology is extremely promising in this regard and are excited to work alongside it on this next generation data capture.”

About the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command’s Edgewood Chemical Biological Center
ECBC possesses an unrivaled chemical biological research and development infrastructure with scientists, engineers, technicians and specialists located at four different sites in the United States: Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., Pine Bluff, Ark., Rock Island, Ill., and Dugway Proving Ground, Utah.ECBC has a unique role in technology development that cannot be duplicated by private industry or research universities. It fosters research, development, testing, and application of technologies for protecting warfighters, first responders and the nation from chemical and biological warfare agents. ECBC is currently developing better ways to remotely detect these chemical and biological materials – before the warfighter or first responder ever enters the threat zone. ECBC is also developing a new generation of technologies to counter everything from homemade explosives to biological aerosols to traditional and non-traditional chemical hazards.
