Applied DNA Sciences and ITW Pillar Technologies provide traceable, tamper-proof induction sealing solutions
Protecting pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, personal care products, supplements, food and beverage
STONY BROOK, NY, February 2, 2015. Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: APDN), (Twitter: @APDN), a provider of DNA-based anti-counterfeiting technology, supply chain and product authentication solutions, announced today that it is working with ITW Pillar Technologies, a business unit of giant ITW (NYSE:ITW), to provide traceable, tamper-proof induction sealing solutions that can be used to protect products from adulteration, counterfeiting and diversion.
ITW Pillar Technologies is a provider of induction cap sealing systems and plasma surface modification systems that can easily incorporate a unique SigNature® DNA taggant, supplied by Applied DNA Sciences, to mark products, and allow for forensic authentication on the seal itself. This value-added solution has the benefit of protecting the tamper-proof seals on original packaging, and subsequently protect original product with the forensic proof needed to demonstrate that the quality and integrity of product are not compromised.
Stated Rory Wolf, CEO, ITW Pillar Technologies, “Conventional induction seals are vulnerable to counterfeiting. We highly recommend a pro-active approach by integrating with this seal a unique DNA mark that can be designated for a particular product type, made at a particular geographic location, for a specific customer. That is the genius of this solution.”
Applied DNA Sciences and ITW Pillar Technologies are already working on a number of commercial programs in the pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, and food and beverage industries.
“We see real benefits to clients that market and sell products where product stewardship, as well as quality assurance, are highly valued. Traceable and tamper-proof induction sealing solutions help to protect products, such as pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, that may be subjected to regular audits, inspections or product authentication,” stated MeiLin Wan, Executive Director, Project Development, Applied DNA Sciences.
