Applied DNA Sciences, Inc. and Techmer PM (Twitter: @TechmerPM), a leading producer of value-added colors and additives for the plastics and fiber industries, announced a partnership that applies DNA tagging to fiber applications.

Techmer PM is collaborating with Applied DNA Sciences to apply the patented SigNature T DNA system to tag, and authenticate polymer-based fiber materials. This innovative application will provide consumer and industrial product manufacturers the ability to protect their products by applying SigNature T to masterbatch pellets at the point of origin, and verify products as they move throughout the supply chain. Ultimately, SigNature T helps to protect products and brands from counterfeiting, providing forensic evidence, and a trail to the source. It is safe, and performs successfully in film and fibers, among other materials.

“This partnership is significant because it underscores Techmer PM’s ability to design and implement advanced technical applications using SigNature T,” said David Turner, Techmer PM’s Vice President of sales and marketing. “It also highlights our focus on designing materials that extend, as well as, maintain the properties of the base resins.”

Techmer PM, a family-owned company, is a leader in producing value-added masterbatch for the plastics and fiber industries. It also designs and manufactures engineered thermoplastic compounds under Techmer ES, a wholly owned subsidiary that creates specialty products designed to operate in extreme temperature and stress environments.

“We are excited about this partnership with Applied DNA Sciences and the opportunity to extend the properties of our custom masterbatch solutions to offer customers enhanced visibility, traceability, and accountability throughout the supply chain,” said John Manuck, Chairman and CEO of Techmer PM. “Our work together strengthens Techmer PM’s focus on collaboration as a core component of our growth strategy and reinforces our mission of providing predictable quality.”

“No other tracer has the forensic fidelity and strength of SigNature T,” said Dr. James A. Hayward, President and CEO of Applied DNA Sciences. “Working with Techmer PM, we have successfully tested SigNature T DNA at its technical center based in Clinton, Tennessee. The DNA tagging has been rigorously evaluated, following Techmer’s standards, and is now being actively piloted with customers involved in all stages of the supply chain.”

In tandem with DNA tagging, APDN will license its SigNify os™ DNA on-site authentication technology to provide real-time testing of fiber and filament yarn, providing the ability for manufacturers to assure quality, support product and warranty claims, and ensure supply chain integrity through systematic testing.
